River Tay Fishing

River Tay FishingWe have a full breakdown of fishing on local rivers and lochs, including detailed maps, where to obtain permits, local ghillies and tackle shops. You will find listings of accommodation specially tailored for anglers as well as information on local angling clubs, organisations and weather. You will also find a wealth of links for England, the rest of Scotland and internationally.

Atlantic Salmon

Atlantic Salmon The Tay is one of the premier salmon rivers of Europe. It boasts the UK record - a fish of 64lb caught by Miss Ballantyne in 1922. Today Salmon over 30lbs are caught on Scotland's Rivers each year, and we all live in the hope of taking that fish of a lifetime.

Brown Trout

Brown Trout FishingIn the spring and summer months brown trout offer some excellent sport. Most are wild fish in the pound range, but there are some monsters. The loch has produced brownies to 16lb last year and this 14lb sea trout kelt was returned this February.

Tuition

Plus if you are in need of some tuition why not contact one of our recommended fishing instructors, guides and ghillies. Tight Lines!

Tay Ghillies Association

Dedicated to improving salmon stocks and encouraging tourism in Perthshire. The ghillies are an increasingly active group. After all their jobs depend on it. The Association is leading the way with fund raising for hatchery work and the kelt reconditioning system.

Coarse angling

Coarse FishingIf you know where to go there is some great coarse fishing to be found on the system. Fly-fishing for Pike is increasingly popular on hill lochs and Boxing day would not be the same without casting for grayling.

Arbroath Sea anging

Arbroath Angling
There is a variety of sea angling venues on the Angus coast, a mixture of cliffs, pebble and sandy beaches and of course off shore boat fishing from the ancient fishing port of Arbroath is the most popular, the most famous (or infamous) mark is the Bell Rock that lies some 10nm out to sea and was the cause of many wrecks. The Heather Isle angling charter boat operates from Arbroath to provide a variety of trips lasting from a few hours to a whole day. Popular cliff angling marks between Arbroath and Montrose include Mariners Grave, Needle’s Eye, Whiting Ness, Steeple Rock, Usan and Boddin.

Glenfarg Trout Fishery

Glenfarg Fishery
With so many put and take fisheries closing in Perthshire it is a pleasure to report on a new one with great potential. This put and take fishery nestles in the hills above Glenfarg.( It is not to be confused with Glenfarg Reservoir as they are quite different). Stunning location and probably the best stocked loch in the region with hard fighting rainbows to an impressive size. A Troutmaster Water with competitions every first Sunday of the month.

Portsonachan Hotel.

Portsonachan Hotel.
Portsonachan is steeped in history and the Clan Campbell stronghold of Kilchurn Castle stands at the north eastern end of Loch Awe, which is Scotland's premier 'Wild' fishing loch. The 27 mile long fresh water loch is home to a wide assortment of fish. You can catch char, salmon, pike and trout, both brown and rainbow. Loch Awe held the record for the largest brown trout caught in Britain in the year 2000 with a weight just shy of 32lbs. There is no need to pay for an expensive permit when staying at our hotel, we allow our guests to fish for free on our land.
